EAL (English as an Additional Language)

In this area, we provide individualised support and classes with an EAL specialist teacher to meet the needs of students with English as an Additional Language. Students participate in Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Vocabulary learning tasks to hone their English language skills and support their learning in other curriculum areas. There are opportunities to develop an understanding of Aotearoa/New Zealand culture including Māori culture and language. The senior EAL course provides pathways for English Language Learners who wish to gain Level 1, 2 or 3 NCEA credits in English Language. The rich diversity of our English Language Learners is celebrated and their cultures and languages are valued.
