Science in Years 12-13

In Year 12 (NCEA Level 2) and Year 13 (NCEA Level 3), Science branches out into Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate subjects, as well as Horticulture and General Science. In this way we continue to provide opportunities for choices that meet the needs of career pathways, tertiary providers, and NCEA requirements.

Biology is the study of life and involves the study of the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution of living organisms.

Chemistry involves the study of matter, its composition and properties, the changes it undergoes and the energy involved.

Physics provides explanations for a wide range of physical phenomena, including light, sound, heat, electricity, magnetism, waves, forces and motion, all united by the concept of energy, which is transformed from one form to another without loss

General Science

Students wishing to continue studying Science without specialising can still do so, by taking General Science, which includes aspects from the Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth and Space Science curriculum.
