Science in Years 7-10

Our Year 7 and 8 students are very privileged at Katikati College as, like the older students, they learn Science in fully equipped labs with trained Science staff. Science in year 7 and 8 is focussed on basic Science skills around working safely in a lab, thinking scientifically and making accurate observations using Science equipment. We aim for students to experience Science as a fun and interesting subject.

At Year 9 and 10 this is extended. Students learn how Science ideas are communicated and how to make links between knowledge, decisions and actions. These outcomes are learned through contextual units bringing together relevant understanding and practical investigations from Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Earth and Space Sciences. Strong scientific research skills are embedded.
