Features of our International Student Programme

Katikati College is a rural co-educational Year 7-13 school 37 km from Tauranga. The College has a proud tradition of academic excellence and the backing of a supportive community. The school roll currently stands at 1000 and is expected to continue to rise as more people move into our catchment zone.

The College has had an extensive international student exchange programme for many years and has recently enrolled a limited number of fee-paying students.

The College is committed to providing the best possible educational environment for its students through high quality teaching, extensive pastoral care procedures and the backing of a the community.

Each year a maximum of 20 International Fee Paying Students are offered a place at Katikati College. Because of our relatively small numbers, students are well served and receive comprehensive support. They are welcomed into the College by other students and soon become very much a part of the school.

Given the nature of many industries based in Katikati, the town has an appreciation of internationalism and regular visitors from all over the world. Both the school and community regularly welcome international guests and enjoy the interaction with them.

At Katikati College we have deliberately restricted the number of international students to ensure that those fortunate enough to enrol receive the best possible support. Through our Learning Centre, students receive language assistance and are quickly integrated into full school life. Students are selected by our advisors overseas and they visit the school, in the year prior to enrolment, to enable us to ascertain their learning needs as well as academic level. This also enables the student to have an experience of student life here before they commence studies.

Our international student co-ordinator maintains close contact with each student, monitoring progress and ensuring that students are well supported. Regular contact with homestay families also ensures that students are happy and well looked after.

Katikati College has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education.

Copies of the Code are available on request from Katikati College or from the Ministry of Education Web site at
