Students from Switzerland

Former Swiss international students share their thoughts

Hi KKC-People
I went to your school from July 2015 to July 2016. This year was the one of the best years in my life. I saw, did, learned and experienced things I’m never going to forget. I went to my first ever ball right in the beginning of the year and had my first Outdoor Education trip not long after. There was always something going on. With Outdoor Education I visited so many places and did cool stuff like Mountain Biking, white water rafting, day skipper certificate, skiing, kayaking, hiking and (my favourite) Scuba diving. I’m now a qualified PADI open water diver and can hire diving gear everywhere over the world.
In November when it was exams time, our international-coordinator Jill Tompsett created an awesome program for us. Nearly every day we could go on a trip. We went to Hobbiton, played Golf, had an amazing race, went on a surf camp at Raglan, did the Tongariro crossing and drove over to Mayor Island. It was just beautiful. Like in paradise. :)
It was nice to experience a school where Teachers and students are friends, where you have house spirit and you learn that school is way more than just working. I loved to learn about the school song and the Haka. I took photography as a subject and I loved it! It’s so cute how much our work got appreciated. I also helped with painting a mural, which is probably hanging somewhere at school now. ;)

I also played in the senior volleyball team and went with them to Nationals at Palmerston north. The team was awesome and I collected some more skills. It was sad when the Volleyball season was over and the winter sports were about to begin. But then I tried basketball, coached by year 13 girls. I had no idea how to play but they took me in the team and I found a basketball family.
I stayed with the best host family ever. ;) I lived just outside Katikati but spent also much time at Waihi beach. They supported me with whatever I wanted to do, I had my own pet lamb Murphy, they celebrated my b-day at the beach with me and they helped me to train until I could pass the lifeguard exam. So I could be a lifeguard over summer. I learned heaps, not just about the ocean also about First Aid. These are skills I can use everywhere. I went on holidays with them and they showed me Waitomo caves, Coromandel, Lake Tarawera and much more. They are my family and I never gonna forget them.

One day I’m coming back to see you all again. Thank you so much for everything.
