Student Services

The Student Service Department includes pastoral, counselling, career education and health services to help students deal with issues which may affect their learning or their future prospects.  Appointments may be made to work with our staff in a confidential, friendly and safe environment.

The Student Services Department is geared to breaking down barriers to learning and to helping provide a safe, caring school culture.  We are accessible not only to our students but to staff, parents, agencies and the wider school community.  We never close.

Career Education

Advice on careers, tertiary education courses and the job market for all students, whether senior or junior is available.  It is never too early to talk of your future and students are welcomed with the opportunity to help all set goals for their future.  A wealth of up to date career material is available for students.

We offer Gateway (work experience programme) and the Trade Academies for our senior students.

Counselling

Personal and group counselling is available.  Students can request a confidential appointment.  While our counsellor works directly with students on psychological, emotional, social or family issues.  Access to an extensive help network off-campus and can liaise with other help agencies throughout the Bay of Plenty.  These agencies include iwi, counselling, mental health or social welfare agencies.

Health Care

The Student Health Centre is available to all Year 9 - 13 students.  At Katikati College we have a registered nurse based on site Monday to Thursday.

The Health Nurse does health checks and education, ACC dressings, sexual health advice and prescribing, and mental health wellbeing.

Our nurse is available to see students 8.30am - 3pm.  The local medical centre runs a surgery at school on a Wednesday from 1.15 - 2.15pm.  This means that our students are able to access free health care through the College.

Appointments are made with the nurse and privacy is assured.

For smaller injuries and medical assistance some members of staff who are first aid qualified will assist students.

If your child needs to be given medication during the day on a regular basis please see the school office where the medication will be kept in a locked area.
